Veuve du Vernay Brut Rosé matches fruity berry desserts, especially this lovely layered berry sundae. It has it's own natural raspberry and strawberry flavours, packed into lots of little bubbles that race up the glass. This feel good fizz brings hedgerow fruit to life, but still has that edge of crisp sophistication to balance. No corkscrew required here, so easy to open for outdoor eating. And all this at a seriously respectable price - for a seriously respectable sparkler. |

| Harpers Design Awards, April 2009, UK |
Now in its 10th year, the Design Awards are the most authoritative in the field. They are judged by a panel of experts drawn from both the drinks trade and the design and packaging industries. The judges first ask themselves how well the product’s design fulfils its brief. Second, they want to know if it suits its target market. And third, does it have that wow factor to make it stand out from the crowd. Veuve du Vernay Brut NV and Veuve du Vernay Rosé NV were both awarded bronze awards.

WINE CORNER BY JACQUIE MORLEY
Want Bonfire Night to go with a bang? Pop your cork for Veuve du Vernay - which can carve up one of the better cavas, given half a chance to shine. Success comes down to more than affordability because rather than being some sickly sherbet fizz this is a cool elegant French sparkler able to hold its head up in posh company. The full range has also had a complete makeover including label, foil and bottle, to reflect the ongoing commitment to excellence. Retailing for £6.99 (although recently bagged at £2 off) it’s very handy for the coming party season given the constraints on most of us.
The relaunch is in the hands of Patriarche Wine Agencies and initially the big three to have gone Brit with the new image are Veuve du Vernay Brut NV, demi sec NV and Brut Rose NV. As one who recalls the old bubbly as fine but nothing special the Brut Rose is a revelation and that down’s the deft touch of Madame Cecile Terrasse – which is how it should be for the range was named in memory of a beautiful widow Veuve de Vernay who stole the original winemaker’s heart. The rose is 100 per cent Tempranillo, fresh and fruity nose, raspberry and red fruit on the palate, the mainstream side of off-dry, and lingering finish. Try it at Tesco and the Co-op.

NEW LOOK FOR FRENCH SPARKLERS
French sparkling wine brand Veuve du Vernay has been relaunched with new-look packaging. The Patriarche-produced Veuve du Vernay Brut NV and Brut Rosé NV have both secured listings in Tesco and the Co-op. The Brut is a blend of 40% Colombard, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Chardonnay. The rosé is made from 100% Tempranillo and is described by the producer as ‘fresh and fruity on the nose, complemented by smooth, velvety bubbles, with raspberry and red fruit flavours on the palate.’
The brand is being positioned ‘as a cheaper alternative to cava and champagne’ according to a spokeswoman. ‘With and RRP of £6.99 it should help consumers save their pennies without having to cut all things sparkling from their shopping baskets,’ she said. It will be available in the UK through Fulham based Patriarche Wine Agencies. Export Director Vincent Goyat added: ‘We have plans to extend the range over the coming months.’
